The morning was perfect and more than 5,500 superheroes showed up and crossed the finish line of the Girls on the Run 5k on Saturday, May 12 many with capes flapping in the wind behind them as they ran.  Many proud finishers visited our Chill Tent playing “Spin the Chill Wheel” to win free t-shirts, good-for-one, or to  buy a well earned frozen cup of Chill.  Chill had a blast being at the race and look forward to the next Fall season!

The largest Girls on the Run 5k in St. Louis
to date was a smashing success with approximately 10,000 people gathering downtown in the new race location to run, cheer and support the nearly 2,600 girls in the Girls on the Run program this spring in 126 schools across the metropolitan area.

The Chill Team woke up early this past Saturday to participate in Friends of Kids with Cancer’s Annual 5K/Mile Walk. The weather was perfect and the Chill staff and employees had fun a fun time bonding together over the 5K and mile. It was great to see so many members of the community participating in this meaningful event. Participants were treated to a special Chill Buck in their gift bags as a thank you for participating in the day’s festivities. After the race, Chill presented its annual check donation to Friends of Kids with Cancer. We’re proud to be a sponsor and have our money go towards a very worthwhile cause.

Things were busy at Chill this week prepping for our big donation on Friday to Washington University’s Spring 2012 WILD. It takes a lot of time and effort to fill over 1000 cups for hungry college students. The small shower earlier in the day didn’t stop students from coming out in droves onto Brookings Quadrangle for some free frozen yogurt and great music. Ryan, Caroline and Annaliese had fun handing out the cups, which came in fan favorites such as cake batter and a dark chocolate and vanilla swirl. They even got to hear some of the openers while they were there. Chill was thrilled to be a part of this semi-annual concert.Washington University students are some of our best customers and we’re just happy to be a part of such a large campus tradition!

Daughters of Local Entrepreneurs Team Together to Develop Innovative Frozen Novelty

JUNE 30, 2011 (ST. LOUIS, MO) – The temperature in St. Louis is on the rise and summer time is in full swing. But that doesn’t mean kids are simply spending hours at the pool or at camp this season. In fact, five local girls have used the time off as an opportunity to launch a brand new and delicious business partnership.

Local entrepreneurs Nicole, Laine and Blaire Koman, co-owners of the St. Louis based Chill Frozen Yogurt, have teamed with Isabel and Genevieve Cunningham, twin daughters of Hollyberry Catering’s owner, Holly Cunningham, to create the “Chillwich.” This frozen yogurt and cookie sandwich treat will hit each of the three Chill retail locations in suburban St. Louis beginning July 1, 2011.

“Seeing our girls work on this project together has been incredibly rewarding,” said Holly Cunningham. “They were involved from the very beginning on all aspects of the project including the developing the initial concept, the packaging and pricing. Their favorite part, of course, was the product taste testing.”

“Part of the unique business model of Chill is the fact our stores are co-owned by my three daughters,” said Amy Koman, mother of Nicole, Laine and Blaire. “Through the Chillwich project, they have learned the value of a strategic business partnership and new product introduction at an early age.”

The pint-sized moguls’ creation, which is a nouveau spin on the traditional ice cream sandwich, combines each of their respective customers’ favorite flavors to create a delectable, delicious and utterly cool treat. Each treat will sell for $3.95 or $10.95 for a pack of three. Current flavor combinations available include:

• Evie’s Cookie Cake – Sweet Sally’s Sugar Cookie with Cake Batter yogurt
• Laine’s Cocoa Craze – Cocoa Bliss Cookie with Brownie Batter yogurt

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (June 2, 2011) – With two successful stores up and running, Chill Frozen Yogurt is on the move again.  The “cool” frozen yogurt shop set to open its new location in Ladue during the weekend of June 10-12. Chill will be located at 9793 Clayton Rd. in the “Ladue Market Place.”

The store will retain its sleek, modern look while continuing to offer many different flavors of all-natural frozen yogurt as well as over 26 toppings to choose from ranging from hot fudge to homemade sea salt caramel to fresh fruit. Chill blends its yogurt in small batches to make sure it’s fresh and high in nutritional value. In addition, it is delivered fresh three times a week from a private vendor. This ensures that every customer receives only the best quality.

“We really strive to provide our customers with the highest quality of frozen yogurt and toppings,” Chill General Manager Ryan Kerlick said. “This is the premise we have built our business on and we look forward to continuing this at our new Ladue location.”

Chill, locally owned, began when Bill and Amy Koman’s three daughters wanted to bring the “Chill” aspect of Southern California frozen yogurt shops to the St. Louis area.  The three daughters, Nicole, Laine and Blaire, are the actual owners of the company and have taken an active interest in offering the best product possible.

“We went to frozen yogurt shops five times a week, and the girls took notes about everything from the flavors to the designs of the store,” Owner Amy Koman said. “We wanted the girls to take ownership of the company and experience what it’s like to help run a business.”

In addition to providing the best quality frozen yogurt, Chill takes an active interest in the community. A portion of all profits from each store goes to Friends of Kids with Cancer, an organization that provides children battling cancer with recreational, educational and emotional support during their battle to beat the illness. This support stretches to the children and their families during all phases the battle.
