St. Louis, January 24, 2011: With one successful Chill location already up and running in Clayton since April 2010, Chill – the cool frozen yogurt shop, is excited to announce the opening of a second ideal location in Des Peres on April 1, 2011. Chill will be located at 11935 Manchester in the NEW Des Peres Center, East of 270 on Manchester Road on the North side of the street. The sleekly designed modern store offers a trendy, all-natural line of unique frozen yogurt flavors, such as blood orange, cake batter, chocolate malt, toasted almond and blackberry. And they’re all created individually and delivered fresh three days a week by a local vendor. Who else can say that!
Chill , locally owned, began when Amy and Bill Koman’s three young daughters wanted to bring the hip Southern California frozen yogurt shops to St. Louis. The girls — who actually own the business — went on a product development mission, researching dozens of frozen yogurt stores in San Diego.
“We went to frozen yogurt shops five times a week, and the girls took notes about everything from the flavors to the design of the stores,” Amy says. “We wanted the girls to take ownership of the company and experience what it’s like to own and help run a business.”
The entrepreneurial St. Louis sisters take an active interest in all aspects of the business, from research and tasting new flavors to recommending toppings to customers to cleaning the store.
“After visiting all the frozen yogurt places in San Diego, we thought it would be a great idea to open one in St. Louis,” says Blaire, the youngest. “And we just made it happen with the help of our mom and dad.”
With more than 30 unique, rotating flavors of yogurt, patrons serve themselves yogurt by the ounce and choose from over 26 different toppings, including house specialties such as homemade sea salt caramel, hot fudge sauce, freshly shaved Callebaut chocolate and fruit puree topping.
Chill blends its healthy, all-natural frozen yogurt in small batches to make sure it’s fresh and high in nutritional value with active yogurt cultures — and it’s loaded with calcium, protein and vitamins.
“Instead of using a national company whose yogurt contains preservatives, our yogurt is produced locally and always tastes great,” says Nicole, the oldest sister. “And since it’s delivered several times a week instead of shipped, it always tastes fresh.”
Even more importantly, a portion of Chill’s profits goes to Friends of Kids with Cancer. It is their mission to be an advocate for these special kids and provide them and their families with the recreational, educational, and emotional support needed throughout the long hours of chemotherapy, illness and isolation.
